Issue #173 / 07-OCT-26

Preview, edit and collaborate on Markdown (.md) files natively across Drive and Docs

Google Docs now natively supports Markdown files, allowing users to view, edit, and collaborate without altering the original format. This eliminates manual conversions while preserving document structure and real-time collaboration tools. With Google Drive now also offering fully rendered Markdown previews, this update streamlines workflows, empowering teams and AI agents to collaborate seamlessly without requiring raw syntax expertise.

Let skills in Gemini tackle your most repetitive tasks

Google is rolling out Skills in Gemini, allowing users to save their most-used instructions and rerun them anytime without retyping. Users can attach reference files, combine multiple skills, and easily automate routine tasks. This new feature will eventually replace Gems as Gemini's primary tool for customizing workflows.

Find your learning tools all in one place with the student hub in Gemini

The Gemini student hub is now available to Google Workspace for Education users of all ages. This learning space helps students stay organized by bringing together study tools like interactive notebooks, flashcards, and practice quizzes, with additional capabilities to be added over time.

Use stock charts in Sheets to better visualize price movements

Google Sheets now supports new types of stock charts, making it easier to visualize price movement over time. Stock charts condense several price points for each time period into a single marker, so you can read a security's full trading range at a glance rather than interpreting separate line series.

Point-in-time editing now available in Google Vids

Google Vids has launched point-in-time editing, aligning the editing canvas 1:1 with the video timeline. Editors now see only the elements active at a specific timestamp, eliminating visual clutter from overlapping text, stickers, and media overlays. This update simplifies multi-layered video creation without requiring users to split scenes, and it is automatically enabled as the default setting across all sessions.
